LOCKHART ASSET SERVICES

Lockhart River, located on the eastern side of the Cape York Peninsula, is the traditional homelands of the Kuuku Ya’u people.  The remote community was established as an Anglican mission in the 1920’s with people from five traditional territories coerced to inhabit the one community.

Lockhart River is now best known for its fishing, beaches and as the home of the internationally acclaimed Lockhart River Art Gang.

The idea for Lockhart Assets Services arose when community engagement sessions identified an opportunity for a locally operated cleaning and asset maintenance service.  COE worked with the local council, contractors and organisations to commence trading in January 2017.   The enterprise has also benefited from corporate supporters.  ISS Facility Services has provided valuable assistance in the development of Lockhart Asset Services.

In January 2017, ISS sent two of its experienced operators to Lockhart River, to work intensively with Lockhart Asset Services to ready them for their first contract with the local school. They provided training to the team on best-practice cleaning methods and chemical storage and handling.  ISS consumables supplier, Bunzl, also generously donated cleaning products and equipment, while ISS supplied new uniforms.

Lockhart Asset Services has also received tremendous support from the local community, particularly the Lockhart School who has supported this locally grown business since it’s conception.
