Trainee testimonials – Napranum Sqw’s

We recently caught up with the trainees from both the Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) projects we are currently running in Napranum, on the western side of the Cape York Peninsula.

Ten trainees are working to repair and reinvigorate the Napranum community farm and a further twelve are working with Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council on a range of activities to improve amenity around their remote township. Through these projects they are building valuable skills and experience.

It is fantastic to hear directly from our participants in both programs about the skills they are developing and the impact the projects are having on their community. The fact our trainees are as excited as we are is testament to how effective these projects are.

An added bonus of the two projects running concurrently is that all the trainees have formed strong bonds, coming together at the Napranum Kuku’nathi Services hub with project mentors from the Na’Muk’A’Run Mob to share meals for special events and other opportunities. Since this was filmed the participants have also been working together to construct six raised garden beds and an enclosed greenhouse at the farm, utilising the skills of both groups to complete this combined task.

The farm has new raised garden beds in an enclosed greenhouse thanks to the efforts of both groups of trainees.
